Two models (Emma and Jarrod)
One photograph of a dog's face
METHODOLOGY
I set this photo shoot on some abandoned armchairs that I found in a car park, I like the way that they looked as if they were deteriorating and were in poor condition. I chose to create a juxtaposition with the smart dress of my models. I especially like the running theme of an orange/brown colour that is consistent through the shoes, hair, eyes of the dog and the bush behind; i think that the background, middle-ground and foreground of the photograph are intertwined. The way that the male model is positioned in the middle of the seat, leaning forward, gives him a powerful stance, this is especially emphasized through the way that I asked my female model to balance on the edge of the chair and avoid direct eye contact with the camera. It was a sunny day and so I used a fast shutter speed so that I could keep a large aperture.
I also took a photograph of my dogs head, of all of the images, I chose the one with a parted mouth as I liked how the light pink contrasted with his black fur. I then used photo shop to over lay the two images for a mythical-style result.

I chose this photograph from the selection because I like the vibrancy of the colours, the aim is to use the head of a dog to cover the face of the male model.
|
I cropped close to the head of the dog and put it as a separate layer above the head of the male in my photograph. I wanted the head of the dog to be slightly larger and out of proportion in comparison to the usual positioning of the model as I thought that this would further support the 'out of the ordinary' theme. I also ensured that i left enough of my dogs neck visible so that I could cover the whole neck of my model.
|
Afterwards, I used a soft edged rubber to erase the background of the top layer, this meant that the two images could blend together without too much of a sharp edge. By using a soft edge, it blurred the boundary between the dog photo and the original photo, this made the transition smoother and more realistic.
|
Finally, I adjusted the brightness by -48 and added 8 to the contrast in order to try to match the shaded background image with the brighter dog image. To tidy up edges, I zoomed in very close and used the patch and spot heal tool to remove the last traces of the dog photo background for a more professional outcome.
