Aims & Objectives.
Out of the Ordinary
In this project, I aim to capture the extra-ordinary, both within everyday life and also incorporating elements of abstract portraiture. My intention is to make the items that are unusual, the focus of my photos so as to intrigue an audience with fantasy-like scenarios that wouldn’t normally be portrayed in photography. Some of my work will be inspired by the fashion industry in attempting to add an unorthodox twist to simple portraiture in order to make the pieces memorable. In doing this I will write a deeply analytical document on the work of five establishes photographers, renowned for their boundary-breaking photographs. I will then use my research to fuel my own project, for example, one of my shoots will be done using a model with dramatic make-up, immersed in a bath of opaque milk to accentuate the prominent facial features as well as creating a super-natural effect as the body's natural figure is lost. To add to this, I aim to produce a short film relating to my topic, within this I will use 'iMovie' and other video editors to alter the speed and in some cases, reverse my footage. For example, I intend to use a tripod and bright lighting to film the motion of a tap repeatedly dripping, I will then use an editor to reverse the video so that it will be backwards from reality. For the majority of this project I will require high-key studio lighting or bright sunshine for the outdoor locations as I feel that this exaggerates the vibrancy of all of the colours and textures for a 'stand-out' effect to give my images an instant, powerful first impact when viewed.
