PAINTING WITH LIGHT
For this photo shoot I waited until the evening so that the setting was dark enough to get a large contrast between the lights and the background, I also used a tripod, torches and sparklers. I liked the more urban backdrop of cars so I set up my tripod facing towards the car park but not too close to the lamps that were lighting the road. I then used the 'bulb' shutter speed setting and a large aperture. I asked my assistant to draw shapes with the lights so that I could capture the light trails, I think that this was successful because the shapes were clear and defined, not too over or under exposed. I later asked my assistant to draw around a car to highlight the contours, the first attempt created a cool effect but it was too light because the shutter had been open for so long so I had to reduce the aperture to a smaller size. After I did this I was pleased with my results as the actual car was barely visible in comparison to the torch lights. To improve this shoot I needed to keep track of the parts of the car that had been missed as this took several attempts to get right.
